Hi everyone :) I've got a bit of an embarrassing rookie diy mistake to own up to and I am in desperate need of a solution. We have completely gutted our bathrooms and are about 80% done with installing. Here's the problem... I picked (and a plumber has installed) a drop in tub into an alcove for use as both the primary bath and shower. (yes I can hear the sighs from here) It wasn't until the middle of the night that I realized we are going to have major water pooling problems. Do I have to start over? Can I build up the tub decking and turn the drop in installation into an undermount install? Would that even make a difference? I can't get recourse from the plumber as he is my brother! Ugh I tried to save us money and I think I may have sunk the ship on this one. Any useful suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

PS the tub is the mirabelle edenton and it is approved for both drop in and undermount installations.

Hi Caligurl

Ask your brother about installing a DRING shower rod.

Here, the idea would be to have a shower curtain that fits INSIDE the tub area, but can slide out of the way when needed.

Hopefully, that gave you an idea or two!

Mark

PS: The tub spout is too low... should be about 6 inches above that tub lip and your brother should have caught that as well as the tub issue itself... UGH! There is nothing that can be done now (just wanted you to know).

Oh now guys there's got to be something else that can keep that tub lip watertight.
Put down a ton of thinset and fit tile over the flange and hope. Or get some really good epoxy and epoxy the hell out of it.
