Hi, I have a Kenmore garbage disposal model 60514... I need to replace the gasket for the tailpipe. I bought a replacement at Home Depot but when I attempt to secure the tailpipe to the unit, since the gasket isn't sitting flush inside the unit, it pushes the tailpipe out through the locking ring... can I trim down the gasket so that it will fit flush inside the unit? If so, any additional advice would be appreciated..

Thank you in advance.

Don't see any reason why not as long as you get a water tight seal.

Of course you can get the proper seal from Sears Parts Direct for $2.19.
