My best friend and I have been together for almost 5 years. He recently broke up with me and told me that he needs to "find himself" he said he wanted to know why he can't show his love for me even if he does. He said that when he's better, he'll come back to court me again. But now he said to move on but wanted us to remain best of friends. I agreed because at that time he really needed help. So we text all day all night but now I think I want him to miss me, to realize that he needs me again. What should I do?
---
He said he regretted what he had done, but he is not ready to try again. He told me he was jealous.

Millions of people want someone back. But we don't own people, and we can't 'make' anyone come back when they don't want to.
I'm not sure what you really want. You text each other day and night! Of course he misses you, good grief. But he's in some sort of emotional pain, so let the poor guy sort out his life. Suggest that he write to us maybe, anonymously.
I have no idea what his mindset is, but I do understand the desire to love while being unable to express it. It comes from lack of a loving childhood for many people. Some people are struggling with being gay and not wanting to and not understanding it.
As for wanting him to NEED you, not just miss you? Ouch. That's a word that makes me shudder. People are happier as couples when they don't 'need' each other. You need to be your own person, able to be alone. Only then can you truly share love without dragging someone down.

If he needs to break up to find himself how is he going to find himself when he wants it both ways? Need and jealous are 2 words of an unhealthy relationship. You two really need to do no contact because both of your emotions are all over the place. Can't live with each other, can't live without each other, can't move on, can't try again, can't move on, want, need, wanting to make the other jealous. Clean break is all you really can do otherwise its going to be a vicious circle of mixed emotions that you will not be able to sort out.

There is a problem when one party says to the other that they need to 'find' themselves, or 'need space', or any other wishy washy reason used to avoid the truth, and true reasons they want to split up.
Otherwise, often the position often resulting for the one dumped is, waiting for 'something' to happen, because the truth is not known.
But you must have some clue?
Regardless, if he has already distanced himself to a point where he is emotionally and physically gone, why do you want him back.
