When flushing the toilet there is little or no pressure when flushing. The handle needs to be held down and it does flush at that point. It also makes a high pitch sound when the tank is refilling. Any ideas?

It sounds like a couple things:
1) The flapper chain needs to be shortened so that there is only about a 1/4" wiggle room in the chain, OR the flapper has worn down and is getting sucked into the flush valve mechanism... in this case it is the flapper that needs to be replaced.
2) The high pitched sound is from your toilet fill valve. Here, the washer or seal under the cap of the fill valve needs to be cleaned or replaced. Check out the video below:
