I'm 14 and I'm not sexually active. I've had my period for nearly two years and it's never been completely regular. Lately though, it seems to be getting more and more irregular. I think the last period I had was in late January and it is now almost April. I don't know what to do. I'm not sexually active and I haven't had any discharge. Should I see a doctor? I've begin sports, but I'm always active, so it's not really anything new. I'm starting to get really worried! What should I do?

I recommend you speak to your parent(s) about this first. They are the best person(s) to know what is best for you. I do, however, think that you should have a medical check up with a physician that can give you a gynecological exam if needed.

To be honest, this isn't abnormal like you might think. Loads of things can cause a delay or skip in your menstural cycles. Fourteen is a good age to start seeing a gynecologist anyway. Talk to your parents if you feel comfortable with that. If not, let your doctor know at your next check up. Doctors CANNOT divulge that information to your parents so no worries... patient/doctor confidentiality covers that.

Please be careful about telling anyone about the privacy rights. This is a minor. Depending on what state they are in, the parents do have a right to know. In Florida, a minor can only seek medical help without parents knowing if it is related to a sexually transmitted disease. Seeing a gynecologist at 14 years of age is a decision the parents need to make.
