I am trying to wake up around 8:30-9am

I am in bed around 2. I don't really know how long it takes me to fall asleep but I know that I get good sleep in the 6-7 hour range. However, I wake up too early. I don't even need to set an alarm. I wake up around 6:30-7am. This is not enough sleep but I wake up and then I go back to sleep for a few hours and get up at 9am but feel more tired than when I woke up early.

How do I change this? I do not need to nor want to wake up this early right now. Should I just be GETTING up when I wake up?

Why do you go to sleep so late? You reallywould do better to go to sleep around midnight than sleep in more.

I ALWAYS get up if I feel awake. I go back to sleep when I'm tired. I too often feel more tired the second sleep of the morning.
But I'm retired and on no schedule. Why do you care? Why not go to bed 7 hours before you feel most refreshed in the morning?

Everybody's internal alarm clock is different. Some people only require 5 hours a night, teenagers much more, etc.

If you are feeling awake, get up! If, through the day you are dragging your behind, then go to bed an hour earlier to get a bit extra. Keep trying to adjust the time. Maybe it will work better if you go to bed an hour later.

Keep track maybe in a little note pad by the bed.

So if I keep waking up at around 7-8am then I should adjust my bedtime for that? And when I wake up then I should get up. I don't know why I wake up then. I seem to wake up earlier like that when I have anticipation for something in the morning like job or appointment. I have always woken up before a set alarm. I don't take naps either
