View Full Version : I had protected sex with my boyfriend. Can I be pregnant?

My boyfriend wore Trojan brand condoms while we had sex this month. The condoms were not expired and we checked them for breakage after finishing. He blows air into them to check if air comes out. We used AstroGlide lube. He didn't "finish" inside of me. With the condom still on, he pulled out, took off the condom and finished (no vaginal contact at that point). Now my period is 2 weeks late. Is there a possibility that I may be pregnant even with all the precaution we took? I'm 20 years old and have been stressing with school work, and graduate school applications, I've also traveled this month... I'm not sure if this is what is causing the delay or if I'm pregnant. Please help!

Condoms can have a 3 to 18 percent failure rate, if that is the only protection you were using. Often the failure is not able to be noticed. ( he is blowing air into a used condom? )

Women get pregnant, while on birth control and using condoms. So yes of course it is possible. Please if sexually active, considering always using at least two methods of birth control for best results.

Pulling out is not a method, still plenty of sperm in early fluids.

Also side note, try using condoms that are already lubed, since some will effect the effectiveness of the condom. But the types you used should be OK together.

At two week late it is OK to start to do a home pregnancy test, be sure to always use the first urine of the morning, when you wake up. If you test and get negative, try test every week till you get a period, or test is positive. ** after two months late, you should see your doctor,

But it is not uncommon to be late, or even miss a period, if you are stress or change life style.

Sorry for the confusion! After he finishes and we are all done and ready to sleep he blows air into it and holds the opening shut to see if air comes out. He does that to check if it might have broken during intercourse.

And what I meant by "pull out" is that even with the condom on he does not finish inside of me. He pulls out (with the condom at all times) then he takes off the condom and finishes far away from my genital area. Do you think we got rid of all risk there?

Yes, we know what pull out means, and no pull out does not work, all that early fluid he has (natural lubricant has sperm in it) so there were sperm in the condom.

But there is often leakage that can not e detected, manufactoring defects and other issues. Also seepage around top, if he did not have it pulled up completely, or it pulls down during sex.
There are many failure options to condoms, most you will never see or know.

So yes, this is how pregnancy happens, and any sex with a condom can end up in pregnancy, Condoms are great, I have used them myself, but they are one of the least effective methods of birth control, so by itself, yes, you have a fair chance of pregnancy

Bottom line is ANY time there is penile insertion there is the risk of pregnancy. The risk can be reduced but not eliminated.

You should wait about 2 weeks after your period is due to take a test or see your doctor.
