How can I get spousal support . My husband abandoned me. I have no cash and no property in my name. We have been married 16 years. He is working in another state. I have no idea what to do. I have no idea where to go for help with my serious problem

You are not going to get it quickly, so get that idea out of your head. You are going to have to file for divorce and ask for the support as part of the divorce. It can take months or even years for this to go though the courts.

Next if you get support will depend on state law where you live, and incomes during the marriage and his income now. It will all be fought in court. So now, you hire an attorney, and file for divorce and support

And ask the attorney about getting the court to also award you money to pay your lawyer. It's allowable in some states.

Can you get a job? That would be my first order of business, looking for work. Anything to support myself and be independent.

Are there children involved?

If you are renting, take in a roommate or give up the apartment and go to family or friends. In fact, with no income at all, a roommate won't be enough. Prepare to find a place to live first, and find a job second. There is a lot you are going to have to suffer while waiting for divorce. Sometimes even a shelter is the only option for a while.

It breaks my heart when married women rely totally on their husbands, with no bank account of their own, and no income of their own, no matter how small, to salt away.

There is no excuse nowadays, unless you have been living under a rock, to be completely dependent on someone to the point where you have to post on a help desk (btw, the poster has a computer) to ask 'how to'.

For heavens sake, we are on The information highway, possibilities are endless. All one has to,do is think!
