You don't have a lawyer representing you? Is there a reason you don't?

Look up the Vermont Civil Rules, read and understand them.

In most places (jurisdictions) one doesn't need to file a motion to engage in discovery. First you should send a written request to the opposing party (or their attorney of they have one). Only if they fail to respond to your liking would you need to file a motion.

What sort of discovery do you seek? Common methods of discovery include:

requests for production of documents;
interrogatories;
requests for admissions; and
depositions.

They should be online somewhere, but I can't find them at the moment. Here (http://evidence.uslegal.com/discovery/vermont-discovery-law/) is a link to get you started.
