It was a romance novel in the 80's. A young woman has a fling with a young man named, Kit. Then she ends up in a wealthy house as a servant and the son takes advantage of her. She escapes and finds a Quaker, Ben, whose wife has been abducted by Indians. As they are going to sleep together, the wife stumbles home after an escape. She is auctioned off in the pirate island of Barbados or Tortuga. A privateer or pirate buys her. He is in love with a woman from his past that married a wealthy man. I think her name was Marie. She is a villain. The heroine ends up on trial and the hero realizes he loves her and rescues her.
