Hi.
My family has recently adopted a 3 month old kitten named pickles. We already have a miniature schnauzer who is blind. The cat mostly stays in my room because when she is out and about around the house our dog constantly searches for her and then tries to attack her. It is difficult because the dog is blind and is clearly curious of the kitten and doesn't know what to think of her. I want them to get along however I don't know how to get the dog to not be so vicious and not attack the kitten. How do I get my dog to accept the cat and not try to defend us and attack her? He thinks the cat is somewhat of a threat, and it doesn't help that he can't see how tiny the kitten really is.

You will have to spend a lot of time acclimating them to each other. Put the dog on a leash while the kitten explores, and pat him and coo sweet words to him, but tug on the leash with a sharp NO if he attacks. As soon as you tug and say no, don't do anything else negative, and go back to patting. Gradually move away over days, while keeping him tied up but with some room to move around, and keep praising him. Randomly award him with a treat if he spends some minutes not trying to attack, but not very often. Mostly use praise.

What I use to do to get a dog and cat to be friends was put them on opposite sides of a screen door and just let them sniff and get use to each other. It usually only took less than a few minutes here and there for less than a week.
