Assalamoalaikum sir

I have a very high eyesight number (-16) my doctor (In Canda) recommended me an eye surgery called phakik iol surgery in which they implant a lens above our natural lens in our eyes. Another doctor told me in Pakistan that they use some part of pig in the making of that lens that's y many islamic countries refuse to use that lens... However he further told me that its allowed in Saudi Arabia . PLease tell me what should I do? Should I go for it or its not allowed in islam .

PLease answer me quickly because I have to confirm my surgery tomorrow on Monday.

Yes, it is a purified protein from pig, sometimes cow, but has been used for years in the dermatology sector

Modern interpretation of Islamic laws, like any religious laws, is going to vary as new concepts develop in a modern world. Using parts of animals in medicine isn't eating them, but some animal parts go inside the body such as heart valves, and others outside, such as the eye lens. I think that this eye lens question needs to be decided by your individual religious leader or leaders. As you noted, some Muslim countries allow it and others don't.

I hope you have successful surgery and no need to panic. For medical purpose it's OK to use that lenses.
