I am 34 and have had sever hip pain in my left hip for about 6 or 7 years. Don't know what is causing it have had all kinds of test. I have an appointment at a pain clinic soon. My question is, how do you know if you are addicted to the meds? I mean I have DT's when I don't have anything but I hurt so bad that I can't walk. My husband don't understand. He tells me all addicts say they hurt so now I don't know what to do. I don't think I would take pills if I didn't hurt. Just wanting some input.

The Only Advice I Can Give Is To Only Take The Meds When You Have To. You May Have To Tolerate Some Pain. My Mother Was A Chronic Pain Patient They Could Not Find The Problem Either. They Started Giving Her Vicodin, lorasets And Then They Gave Her Oxycontin. She Is Now A Full Blown Heroin Addict. So Make Sure The Docs Don't Just Try To Push Drugs On You And That They Are Addressing The Problem. Also See If There Are Any Non Narcotic Pain Medications That May Help.
And No Your Husband Won't Understand He Is Not The One Who Is Pain Every Day All Day. Good Luck I Hope Your Pain Can Be Resolved!

Pain of course has to be caused by something, but yes it can be many things,

If you have DT and other withdraw issues you are basically addicted to the drugs, now many people have to stay and stay addicted to drugs because of serious pains,

So in the end, you won't know until the medical doctors can tell you what is causing the pain, if there is no physcial reason for it, it can be mental, but it is not my place to judge or say it is. This is why a very complete physcial workup by a very good doctor including nerve conduction, Scans and all possible tests will tell you

Your husband know no more than I do, but he may be seeing a system to your taking medicaion, seeing an increase or other habits of a addict that he did not mention or you did not mention.

I am going through the same thing, and I found swimming helps real pain when my body is hurting. I was raped after a vaginal surgery and I thought that would earn me the use of Vicodin forever. But the real thing is that I can deal with the pain and my experience with this is, if you have to ask, "am i an addict"? You probably are. Only you and God can answer this... I will pray for you dear.

Of course you are addicted, but what is the alternative? Live with pain? As long as you take your pain medications as the doctor prescribes them you will be OK.
Cancer patients are addicted to pain medicines. Chronic pain patients are addicted. It is not a good situation to be in but you could use the augment that any one that needs medication to live a normal life is addicted.
Just use the medication as directed and do not take more than prescribed. Be aware of the danger and take only as prescribed.
