I am behind on my payments the car is being fixed, and they asked to meet me at the gas station and I went I called and said I was there. So he said he would meet me at 10 I said OK, 10o'clock came I called the phone back and someone answered and said that the guy would not be able to meet me cause he had a family emergency at the last minute. He said is there a address where they could meet me and I said no I stay at someone house and I can't give they address out like that, he we will report the car stolen thank you and hung up the phone. So can they report it stolen?

I'm wondering if you could make this a little harder to answer by making it even more confusing...

You're behind in payments.
The car is being fixed.
Someone called and wanted to meet you and at 10 you said you were there.
You called and were told he couldn't meet you.
They asked for an address and you didn't give them one.
They are going to report the car stolen.

Did you steal the car? Did someone else steal it?

None of that makes any sense.

I am buying the car from the car lot. But since the car is being fixed and my hours have been short at work I got behind on my payments. So someone from the car lot called saying to meet them at the gas station to discuss the situation. So I told I would meet them but when 10pm approached and they did not show up I called the number back and was told that they would not be able to meet me because the person had a family emergency at the last minute. And they wanted me to give them my friend address so they could come later on that night to discuss the situation. But once I said I can't just give their address out like that the person stated they would report the car as stolen.

They pull all kind of tricks and say anything to scare you. They have their ways of finding the car without reporting it stolen, but once they locate it they will just take it no questions asked. But then they can get you in trouble for 'hiding the car'. You need to find out what they need to keep them from taking the car. Then in my state you have 30 days to catch up on your payment and all incurred fees. That can be more than its worth and if you can't afford your payment by then it will be about impossible to afford to get back

As Nohelp4U said, the threat to report it as stolen is just a ruse. You are not going to get in trouble with the police. But I wouldn't count on the 30 days Nohelp4U mentioned. When they find the car, if you are still behind in the payments, and depending on where (what state) you are, they can probably just take it.

Regardless of the law about reporting it stolen, 'repo guys' don't mess around. I've seen them tow so fast you can't blink or you'll miss it. If it's still at the gas station they can just take it from there, and if you gave your friend's address out, they'll find you. That may be the real reason they didn't show up - they are about to repo it.
