Hello:

My Maytag Neptune (Gas) Dryer - Model MDG5500AWW is having problems.

The dryer is not getting hot enough and taking a very very long time to dry, even with small loads. I have done the following troubleshooting:

Cleared vent
Cleaned dryer out completely.
Tested temperature of air.

The tempeture of the heat for the drying is only going up to 110 degrees. I understand that the dryer should be heating up to 150 degrees.

I have tested the air temperature at both modes of operation - timed and seņor. I have not other problems with the dryer.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be.

Thank you for your help!!

Diana:rolleyes:

I'm having the same problem, and tonight I started smelling gas.

The Most Likely Cause Would Be That Either The Rubber Seal Around Door Is Bad. The Exhaust Chute Is Clogged. The Heating Element Might Have Went Out(Electric Only), Or The Low Temp Thermostat Went Out. Some Newer Models Have A Regulator Which Will Turn Heat Down In The Event Of Clogging To Prevent Overheating Damage To Machine.

I am a technician in the area of east bay California with a bear license, the problem is bsically the exhaust duct, is clogged with lynt, and also is a good practice to change the coils in the gas dryers valve, because these coils are like batteries in a dryer, after some years, start to fail.

Good luck
