In April I purchased and had installed a new water heater. We are now getting natural gas. One plumber told me that the heater can not be converted and wants me to purchase a new one. The original plumber tells me that it can be converted, but I need to get the conversion kit. When I called the company and gave them the serial number 1310AO16475 they advised there is no conversion kit. So who's telling the truth?

I suggest that you call the gas company and ask if they can convert the water heater to natural gas.

they advised there is no conversion kit.

I suggest that means that they don't sell a kit and not necessarily that it cannot be converted.

You simply need a natural gas type gas valve and you may need to adjust the pilot light to match the decreased pressure of natural gas. The orifice will need to be made a little larger which is done with a kit of little drills you insert in orifice to make it bigger. It's all very simple.
