Hi

Buying a house built in 1890s, had extension 1970s, has the old electric board still under the stairs, but had trip switches fitted to each plug around house. is this OK? And why have this type of work done and not the original board changed?

Looking forward to your answer
Julie

I would have it all redone ( personally) but you get at least two professionals in that field, to come and give you professional opinion of what they see after an inspection

What are trip switches?
The wiring in the house is not the same thing as the panel board and service. You can work on one and not the other.

Hi Julie,

Are you in the United States? Just wondering, that can make all the difference.
The best thing to do would probably be to get a couple of professionals to give an opinion. It's sort of hard to pass judgement over a message board. Do you have any photos you could link to? (Can't remember if you can do this on this site)
