You don't know when you ovulate... it takes testing and/or a daily basal temperature chart to find out exactly when... because women are very inconsistent from woman to woman WHEN on their cycle they ovulate.

Unless you've had sex... you can't be pregnant... but if you did... you will need to test for it in another 4 or 5 days, first thing in the morning.. the first time you pee.

At 16 your period can be irregular from time to time... even as an adult many women can have irregular periods for a number of reasons.

Agreed, phone and online apps are like "games" they will not tell you when you actually ovulate, so without testing, you do not know.

If you are having sex, you could be pregnant of course, if this is case, have you taken a pregnancy test, with first urine of morning.]]

If not sexually active, some women just miss a period sometimes,

If you are not sexually active, wait till next period due, if you miss it, go see your doctor

Definite possibility... if this begins to happen with any regularity... then its time to talk to a Gynecologist and your mother...

Stress, working out, yes, could have a lot to do with your period bring late. Going to the doctor does not necessarily mean blood tests, but you will have to get used to that aspect :)

Speak to your mom about this.

This is part of the responsibilities of getting older. You will be an adult in a couple more years and you will have to deal with far worse than this... this is actually pretty mild as issues go.

More and more you are going to have to shoulder the burden of this and far more in the next few years... time to get your feet wet. Its not nearly as bad as you make it out to be in your mind.

And keep in mind... we've seen it all and a LOT more... a whole lot more. Its going to take you decades before you've seen as much as your mom has... so take advantage of the benefit of her experience. One day and it will be sooner than you wish... you will wish she was there to talk to about something and she won't be.

There are many things that can cause you to miss a period. Stress, weight loss, weight gain, medication, illness, cancer, ovarian cysts, etc. etc. The list is long.

You need to tell mom that you're not sexually active, but you've missed your period and you're experiencing pain, and it worries you. If mom has half a brain she should know that a missed period doesn't always indicate pregnancy, it can indicate a medical issue. If mom doesn't know this, show her your thread on this site so she can hear it from people that do know.

Trust me.. women becoming emotional as well as irritable right before their period is fairly common. Its related to the hormone swings your body goes through every month.

There is actually a name for it.. one I'm sure you have heard... Premenstrual Stress Syndrome. Or PMS. Some lucky women cruise through it barely noticing... on the other extreme a few actually end up with Jesuit Priests performing Exorcisms on them. :) The rest fall somewhere in between.

Stress or worrying about it is sometimes all it takes to make it late as well.

I had to spread the rep, but had to remark on the exorcism part. I'm not one to go nuts with PMS, but during pregnancy, watch out. My poor husband was afraid to come home during my pregnancies.

With my second, when I found out I was once again going to be very pregnant during summer, I told him to buy an air conditioner, or leave town. He bought a very nice AC unit. Sadly it died last year, and now I'm dying from the heat. I'm actually thinking about getting another bun in the oven just to get a new AC unit. Don't think that will work since hubby had a vasectomy. ;)

If its severe cramping you mIght have to ask your Gynecologist to find out if you might have endemetriosis... which a surprising number of women have... which is uterine tissue in places other than the inside of their uterus.. which actually behaves monthly just like it would if it were where it was supposed to be... causing debilitating pain during their period.

That is if you've never discussed your sever symptoms to them before.

I used to have cramping so bad that I landed in the hospital a few times, doubled over in pain. My mom thought I had appendicitis, a fear she often had because of her experience as a teen. Her appendix burst because she ignored the pain, thinking she was just overreacting. She almost died, and because of the burst appendix, she had trouble conceiving.

When I finally went to a gynecologist at the age of 18, I found out that there were reasons for the pain during my periods. It was easily corrected. I was also given medication that really helped with the pain. I usually only had to use it the first two days, which were my worst days.

I would really urge you to talk to your doctor about your delayed period, and the pain you're experiencing. It could be a medical problem that may be easily corrected, or at least treated so that you don't have to experience this pain.
