I have an ulcer on my vagina discovered by my urologist. I had been wearing a pessary for prolapsed bladder for several years and recently while trying to find a new pessary that would be easier for the nurse practitioner to remove and clean,
We tried two other pessaries. The first fell out. The second was a large cube and severely irritated the bladder and vagina. The urologist is treating it with 2grams of estrace cream inserted once a week. I have been having a pinkish/bloody discharge along with more discharge of a brownish/gray color.
The doctor says it will take about 2 months to clear this up. I am on Plavix generic but that didn't seem to concern her. My family physician is aware of the situation and didn't seem alarmed at the 2 months of discharge.

Is this the normal treatment for a vaginal ulcer. Should I be seeking the advice of an ob-gyn? I am 76 and not sexually active.

Both your family doctor and your treating doctor seem okay with this. I would say that it is reasonable. It is hard to say over the internet because of the lack of detail and knowledge.
