Unfortunately type 1 diabetes cannot be reversed or controlled with diet as type 2 can, at times. Your pancreas cannot produce the amount of insulin your body needs, therefore the supplement of additional insulin.

Supposedly it is reversible with the correct diet and exercise controlling blood sugar and keeping away from sugars

It is possible for some to reverse their diabetes or at least get it more under control. 2 things helpful are each day eat at least a teaspoon of cinnamon and a cup of greens. Never stop your medications without working with a dr. You would have to gradually increase the reverse as you decrease the meds and that can be quite tricky. Your best bet is get informed by studying alternative remedies, natural supplements and herbs for reversing diabetes AS WELL AS finding an alternative meds dr. in your area

Not disagreeing with "Nohelp." I admire her answers, and she knows that (good to see you back!).

I do have to add - my late husband was a Doctor of Pharmacy, taught in Pharm School, owned several, was a practicing Pharmacist - and diabetic. He tried anything/everything. He could "count carbs" in his sleep. Tried every diet, everything he could, went to holistic Doctors, would have gone to Witch Doctors if they could have helped him.

My point is - he was a highly educated, highly trained, highly experienced professional. If anyone could have stopped he course of Diabetes, it was him.

He could not. Do NOTHING without consulting with your Physician, nothing at all.

OP started with juvenile diabetes (18 now and has had it for ten years) which automatically fast forwards to type 1 in which the immune system creates a consistent deficiency of the insulin hormone. The operative statement here is 'do not proceed with any alternate plan and do nothing without a doctor's consult and most importantly do not go without regular insulin injections.

Agree with the emphasis on Type 1.
Also agree that any diabetic needs to eat very healthily, and there are new study results all the time! I just heard one on the news 2 days ago, about how the many small meal plan may be counterproductive (the theory was 2 higher calorie multi-nutrient meals were better). Please don't quote me on that.
You need to be both an educated diabetic, doing lots of research, and a patient who trusts his or her doctor, and talks about any concerns with that doctor, even if you read things online.

Love you too Judy but people only try what they know. I know alternative doctors that have reversed diabetes. Studies have shown (main stream media) that simply losing weight has been enough to reverse SOME obese peoples diabetes. I didn't give him any formula or even the supplements or herbs because I am hoping the OP can educate themselves with the help of an alternative meds dr since everybody's body chemistry is different as well as some of the supplements should be taken with caution.
I could finally get a new password after years of trying so I am back.

I am really, really glad to see you - no one has been on the "alternative medicine" boards of any merit.

Always enjoy our give and take!

I am a type 2 diabetic, never miss a meal but my meals are a lot of veggies, protein, chicken, fish, very little beef, no snacking, but between breakfast and lunch, because I am out working, I need an orange or grain snack around 10. This works for me; you have to find what works for you and test glucose level every morning before eating. I was able to reduce my diabetes med metformin to one per day from 2 and a 1/2 four years ago.

My point is, as Joy pointed out, you find what works for you, and you educate yourself on diabetes so you do have a check up every six months and a good relationship with your doctor.

I could weigh less and I would probably lose my diabetes quite naturally, but I would never consider alternate (holistic) medicine to deal with my diabetes because I want to keep my kidneys for the rest of my life. I have too many clients on dialysis at the moment because they abused their meds and disregarded their doctor's advice.

This is for general information.

I'm seeing some dangerous advice here.

The OP has Type I Diabetes, used to be known as juvenile diabetes. In this case the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas does not produce insulin at all.

In this form of diabetes diet, weight loss and exercise helps, but insulin is a necessity. Many people with Type I Diabetes are on continuous insulin pumps. This form of diabetes cannot be controlled the way that Type II Diabetes can be controlled.

I note in another thread that the OP had a head injury 7 months ago, but does not see doctors. Doctors are another necessity with Type I diabetes.

Metformin does not work with Type I. The OP would most likely need regular and/or long acting insulin.

Good to see you back. However, this is VERY dangerous advise for a Type I Diabetic. Type I cannot be reversed like Type II can.

If you referring to my mention of metformin, I did not state that it was useful to type 1. I was referring to usage for type 2. No where in my post could that have been misconstrued.

My point is the healthier they try to get themselves the better off they may be, even if they never can reverse it

Yes I agree, proper diet, no extra weight.

You really need to confer with your doctor about your questions. Every patient is different. I am sure that you are not looking forward to a life of taking shots everyday but things always are getting better in medicine.
