I adopted a 8 week old german shepherd-boxer mix last week. I took her to the vet and they found tapeworms and roundworms. The vet also said she has colitis which he explained is inflammation of the colon and intestinal area. The past 3 days off and on, she completely acts insane... NOT normal puppy behavior. She is scratching her entire body and biting ever inch she can reach aggressively on her body, especially her poor paws. She whines and crys as if she's in pain, slams herself in walls and doors, rolls all over the ground and has fell off the couch a few times doing so, digs the floor and pushes herself while digging into couch cushions and I have to watch her closely because she keeps finding small places to squeeze into, which she ended up getting stuck. She went nuts in her kennel where she keeps running to, she's also constantly biting and scratching her butt area. This has happened about 5 times in the past 3 days. The first night she started this behavior began around 10pm (we were up all night trying to comfort her) and didn't stop till around noon the next day when I fed her puppy can food and was acting normal after a bowel moment, buy could have been a coincidence (we had her for 10 days and she never acted strange until then). It happened again yesterday afternoon for about 2 hours, again around 8 that evening which lasted for 2 and a half hours, again this afternoon for 1 hr and started yet again this evening around 11pm and is still happening as I type this out at 2am. She tries to hard to fall asleep and nap during this but can only sit still no longer than a minute to 5 minutes and starts freaking out again. She also lunges at us and our other pets but doesn't bite when doing so. Its almost like she's hurting so much she's trying to get her frustration out, poor baby girls! She is eating and drinking, her pee is very yellow when it was clear when first getting her a week ago and she has trouble with bowel movements off and on, but when she does go, its hard as a rock then turns into diarrhea. The vet practically made us out to be liars and over exaggerating when we explained what our worries are. I am super nervous its neurological issues (that's how bad these 'episodes' are), but if I had two different kind of worms, couldn't poop and had inflamed tummy and butt and in pain I'd probably act the same way! I recorded a 7 video clips of her going insane I'm different ways so the vet can see what we am seeing and very nervous about. I am frustrated to the max being up all night with this poor little girl suffering. He hasn't ran any blood work but did take an x-ray and found nothing bad like foreign objects or anything.
So, can you give me YOUR input? I am very worried and hope it isn't too serious. I really am not prepared for a serious diagnosis. I have fell in love with my Roxy the first day I adopted her and will be totally and completely heart broken if I have to put her down. I should also add that the vet gave her deworming meds by mouth a week and I have another dose to give her in a few days and he also gave her a shot today, that stung Roxy real bad, to get rid of the tapeworms and when she last went poop I saw just a few tiny rice grain sized worms in it, which is a drastic change but starting a few hrs ago, she became all crazy again! She literally ran into a wall and began to bite the crap out of her paws, tail, tummy, etc. then scratched her ears raw even though I tried numerous times to stop her.
I will be taking her back to this vet one more time and show him videos I have recorded tonight. If no answers or help, I will have to switch vets. I went to this vet clinic because it was way cheaper than every other place in the area but my pups health is more important than saving some bucks... especially with how serious this is becoming!
Thanks and hope you can help me figure out what in the world these symptoms are caused from.
