I have an instant hot water system made by Eternal Of Canada. The unit is two yrs old and is defective. Eternal is willing to give me a brand new unit but not willing to pay for any installation costs or labor. The company I got it from says they will charge me 1700.00 to remove old unit and install new. This seems to be excessive to me. Any comments?

Only intelligent comment I can present is to get 2 more estimates. It is the only way that you can be sure of the best company and price for your area! Be sure installation includes a permit and that the company is licensed and insured to do the work!

Good luck!

I have a different take on this. I would say, YES, that is excessive for merely changing out any water heater when you don't have to pay for the water heater itself. However, I do agree with Mark about getting another bid or two. It may just be that your area has extremely excessive rates for labor? If that is the case, Im sorry , but that's what its going to cost to get the job done.

And, Mark, what about bonded, lol. The things we have to have to be a legit business, huh.. Im going to make up a list of reasons a legit plumbing and heating company charges more than other "plumbers" and "hvac" techs. I may even post it in my front window at my shop. I have no doubt that most people would not believe what it takes to do things correctly and legally when it comes to the trades.
