Where is diverter, on the valve or on the spout. Been a long time since I installed a Positempt, believe it makes a difference which outlet is used for shower riser. If so valve should be marked which outlet should be up. Won't be cartridge.

Hi Sjtumer and welcome to The Plumbing Page at AMHD.com. You're responding to a 3 year old dead threads so I gave you one of your own. Please check the date before you post. Thanks
You say,
water pressure is correct, But what is the house PSI? Too high Pressure would gibe you the problem you have. Is there a PRV, (Pressure reducing valve) installed? Please answer our questions and we'll be back. Regards, Tom

The diverter is on the spout. The valve has been installed correctly Up/Down

There is no pressure reducing valve. The house psi is 70.

Possible defective diverter in spout or blockage in spout. Remove spout and see what happens.

Sorry, somehow I missed your reply a couple days ago.

I agree with Harold. Remove the spout and see what happens. If it still does the same thing with spout removed, Im going to guess that some solder or other debris got into the spout port of the valve and is creating enough of a restriction to send water up the shower riser. If this is the case, remove the cartridge, and send air up the spout pipe via an air compressor. Should resolve the problem unless the solder is "stuck" in place. You say the valve is installed correctly, can you let me know which way the handle points when in the off position?
