I have a leak in den ceiling with a bath/tub on the second floor. Is it better to pull the carpet on the second floor and search for the leak, or, from the den ceiling?
I have a few spot that have dampened the ceiling and the tape has cracked.

Feel the carpet. If it is wet you will have to remove it. This could cause mold.

The area of the ceiling that is getting wet will have to be replaced. This being said, remove the section that is wet and inspect the area above. Check the pipes to see if they are wet.

You may have to flush the toilet or run water in tub wile doing the inspection.

Let us know what you find and we can guild you in the repair.

Before you start tearing into the ceiling open up the tub access panel and c heck for moisture. If you shower in the tub the leak could also be caused by grout that has shrunk over time allowing water to seep down, Good luck and let me know what you find. Tom
