My tub/shower has a trip lever below the faucet to control the drain. It got stuck so I bought the new part. All I have to do is replace the pins and put in the new lever. I saw a video on u tube on pulling the whole piece out. However, the stopper piece inside won't pull out.

Its probably 1970 and may be stuck with lyme or corrosion.I tried WD 40 and nothing? Should I spray CRL inside. Im afraid I might break it if I force it? Any idea on how to unstick it? Home depo told me to I have to cut a hole in my ceiling.

Thank you,
Lenore :)

Hi Lenore. Worst case would be that you end up cutting an access either behind the tub, or in the ceiling below the tub to replace the complete waste and overflow assembly. However, I would certainly dump some CRL down the overflow and let it set an hour or so. Do this several times and then just pull on that thing as hard as you want. It will either come out, or you will break it. 50 50 shot here. If it comes out, you saved cutting into the wall or ceiling. If it breaks you make an access hole for replacement of the assembly and then I would suggest Installing an access panel for future service VS patching the hole back in.
