The chain in our Hampton Bay ceiling fan broke recently. When this happened, the light would not work. When we took it apart, we found that a piece of plastic inside the switch had been broken. We replaced the switch, and now the fan does not work. We are going to check and double check the way it was wired to make sure it is correct, but my question is this: Does the remote have to be reprogrammed or something when the switch is changed? I would really appreciate some advice on this! The technician at the company told us he has no idea which wires go in which holes in the switch, because the colors we have should not be on that fan. We're getting a little desperate here!

Thanks!

Ok, did you replace the light's pullchain, or the fan's?

It sounds like you replaced the light's pullchain, and maybe disconnected a wire while you were in there, probably the white wire. Look around and make sure everything is connected.

We changed the pullchain for the fan. We thought the light was the problem, but when we took the fan apart, the piece that was broken was the switch with 4 wires. We were told this is the fan switch.

If the light wasn't working, the problem wouldn't be with the fan pullchain. It's likely you have two separate issues. Add to that, you have a remote fan!

Does the light work now?

The light does work now, but the fan doesn't. The problem is that the color wires we have are not the colors that anyone (including the company that sells the fans) says should be in the fan.

What colors are they?

what colors are they?

Blue, Brown, Orange, Pink. According to King of Fans, they have absolutely no idea how we got these wires! A little frustrating...

No black? I'm not sure either I don't recall that combination offhand. What model fan is it, do the still make it?

No black. See the problem? It is the Renaissance II, Model #129857. I don't know if they make it any more.

There's not always a black, and black is not always hot, but it sure makes it harder to figure out.

I can't find the model online. I have a few thoughts:

1. King of fans does not, did not, make ALL Hampton Bay ceiling fans. SMC made some, Minka Group made others, etc.

2. The fan is still under warranty, if you return the whole thing to Home Depot they should exchange it for whatever the current version of that model is.
