I live in a one story house. The past couple times I have done laundry, there's been this gurgling noise coming from the bathroom & kitchen. I looked in the bathtub and water is coming up out of the drain. What could be causing this and how do I go about fixing it?

Thanks!

Have you tried using a snake to clear what might be causing the gurgling down the shower drain?

There's probably a blockage in the pipe - put some drain cleaner/unblocker down (put it down every hole if you have to - the blockage could be somewhere unexpected) and cross your fingers! I'm sure there's a more accurate way to do it than just guessing but it worked for me.

By the way, there's an eco-friendly recipe for drain-cleaner but I can't remember what it is so you'd have to look it up.

I am not in favor in using harsh chemicals in your drainage system. They only seem to work in TV commercials and if left in the trap will burn your hands, or your eyes, if you remove it to snake the drain.
Having said that you have a partial blockage in the washer line that's backing up into the lowest fixture in your house, the bathtub.
The solution would be to snake the drain from the washer or lavatory roof vent. Put out enough cable to reach the base and about 20 feet more. Test by cycling the washer. Good luck, Tom
