I like to dye my hair at home so I would like some advice on how I can put brown hair dye on black hair.

I dye my hair at home as well, as my natural color is a rather lackluster dark brown with grey streaks through it. What I've found is that, when lightening it to a caramel color, I didn't get the exact result I was looking for with the first box, but when I reapplied as directed in the instructions, I got to the color I was trying for by the third box. Now it's just a matter of covering the roots about every 2 to 3 months. Anyone who didn't know me before I started dying think my current color is the natural color.

In the meantime, the first box put in some very stunning highlights that brightened up the natural brown, and the second box made people who saw me every day think that I was going to a tanning salon rather than coloring my hair, as it made me look less "washed out" and more healthy.

Good luck!

If you meant to ask what to use apart from the boxes of hair dye you find at the stores, I learned from using peroxide in my hair in high school that you shouldn't do that. Not only do a lot of the things in your medicine cabinet give you unintended color issues, they also are very harsh. My son, unhappy with his red hair, used something that someone in college suggested and damaged his roots to the point that he has a bald spot where the hair just doesn't grow back on top of his head. (He made the mistake about 5 years ago and will have to pay for it for the rest of his life... )

Speak to someone who does hair all the time if you're looking for a recipe to make yourself at home before you do anything like that...
