It tuns out the bowl on the new bathroom sink I'm trying to install is not as deep as the previous one. So the new tail piece which is exactly as long as the old tail piece doesn't reach the P-trap there is a 2 inch difference. It does however all line up. Is there an extension I can get. All the pipe is metal except for the new tail piece which is PVC. Does anyone know a solution?

Commonly called an extension tube by plumbers. You can get this at any hardware store or plumbing shop. Just make sure to get the correct size. It will be either 1 1/2, or 1 1/4 depending on which size trap you are using.

You have choices here. They make a extra long tailpiece threaded on both ends that you can cut to size or a tailpiece with a compression nut that you can add on to your old one. Pick one up at your local big box or plumbing supply house. Good luck. N nTom

Good call, Tom. I didn't event think about the longer chrome threaded tailpiece that simply screws into the original pop up assembly. Im sure you would agree that the tubular plastic extension tube would be an easier route to take though, yes?
