I am currently finishing my studies, will start working with a company that agrees to sponsor my work authorization. I will start with my OPT and apply for H1b next year.

I was wondering :

1) Is having an h1 b from another company viewed as a limiting factor when looking for a new job?

2) how do we go about for a new job when we have an H-1b from one company ? What's the job hunting process like? What would be a good way to position ourselves when asking for a transfer within one company? Some say that h-1b lose a 'bargaining power' because of the limiting work status.

I wanted to be prepared in case this first job doesn't work our for me. Your advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you

You'll have to work for the current H1B company for minimum of 3 months before another company can apply for a transfer to their company. Once the H1 transfer has been filed, you can begin working with that company without waiting for the approval from USCIS.
