My brother was born with Downs Syndrome, he is 44 yrs old this year, and has been with me since my dad passed away. He now receives Soc Sec from my dad.
My brother has no children, however, I received a letter from Social Security saying they will be taking $281 a month out of his check for a child of his in Georgia. I called immediately SS, and they said the letter came from Essex Co. NJ. We live in NJ. Essex Co. gave me the number and case number in Georgia, and I was able to get through. I spoke to a gentleman who was all for helping me as the SS# that was supposed to have the money deducted from his check, was not my brothers SS#. In other words, the wrong person was paying this $281.A week later a woman from Ga Child Support called me and told me they had taken care of everything on their end. Since then, I have received no paperwork verifying this, and can not get through to real people in the Essex Co. Child Support System to get this straightened out. According to Soc Security Office, they will not stop payments unless they have written verification. Can you help me? It has been since March and the money continues to come out of his check.

Try contacting some of your congressional representatives. They usually have assistants who follow up on problems of this sort. Good luck.
