Go with something made of a grained wood, like teak or walnut. Is this for earrings or what? Skip the gem look and go with something unusual in jewelry. Dailycoyote dot net has a shop that sells elk teeth and other interesting things made into jewelry for earrings and necklaces.

What type of pieces are you looking for? What price range?

I had my jewelry on here for a while. unique jewelry - Etsy Teams (http://www.etsy.com/teams/14354/unique-jewelry)
Mine is under $30. But I haven't really been trying to sell any lately
I like slave bracelets for something different. slave bracelets - Yahoo! Image Search Results (http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0oG7lHjehVSFhoATMBXNyoA?p=slave+brace lets&fr=yfp-t-103&fr2=piv-web)

I make my own. Find a craft store that has beads, and other jewelry accessories, and make your own custom jewelry. I make earrings, necklaces, you name it. Price will depend on the items you choose to put on your custom pieces.

Not sure where you live, but in Canada we have a craft store called Michaels. Their jewelry accessories are outstanding, and very reasonably priced, high quality stuff. Walmart sells some beads and stuff, but I have to admit their selection isn't very big, and a lot of their stuff is lower quality in my opinion.

There are also independent places all over that sell beads, pendants, etc. etc. and all the clasps, and everything else you'll need. Those shops usually cost a bit more.

Who knows, you may get so good at it you'll be able to sell custom pieces to others. :)
