I have rigged up a air boosted water jug on top of my whirlpool refrigerator ice maker. Lets me use 5 gallon jugs that I fill from an RO water supply. I use a silicone stopper that I drilled two holes through for plastic 1/4 " tubing. One tube goes to a small air compressor that I regulate at 25 psi, the other tube hooks up to the solenoid valve at the bottom back of refrigerator. The compressor sits on top of cupboards above the refrigerator. I used a check valve for an aquarium pump inline between the compressor and water jug. This keeps the tank pressurized along with preventing water back up during a power failure. the compressor could also be located in a basement if the noise is objectionable. This has been working great. Our well water has high mineral/sulphur content with very nasty salty taste so direct hookup to the house plumbing was out of the question. The silicone stopper works great as it seals itself tightly around the tubing, the holes appear to have vanished after drilling but the tubing can be pushed through with a stiff wire. (I used a metal small tent stake). The compressor runs very little to keep the 25psi pressure on the water. I used regular fish tank air line. Walmart has a 50 dollar compressor that works great for this. A standard 1/4" compression fitting holds the tubing fine with out a leak.

Is your icemaker hooked up to your R.O system ? If so, when was the last time you changed filters in you R.O. system ? It is not advisable to connect icemaker to R.O. system bcs of lack of water supply to the icemaker. Connect icemaker supply to regular filter and see if that helps. Back to you. Milo

I don't own an RO system as my water is so bad it would take an extremely expensive system to do the job plus I don't own the property it is leased. I fill jugs at a commercial water dispensing machine. Apparently you haven't even read my post,, I am a refrigeration tech and have worked on hundreds of commercial ice machines and am well aware of water supply pressure required for proper operation. I posted this as a solution to boost pressure plus allowing the use of bottled water for anyone with water quality problems. However I'm sure I could rig up a way to pressurize an RO system storage tank to do the same. I will work on it and post a feasible method... thank you for your concerns :)

Hi riggitup and welcome to The Plumbing Page at AMHD.com. You're responding to a 7 year old dead threads so I gave you one of your own. Please check the date before you post. Thanks
In one post you say ,
Lets me use 5 gallon jugs that I fill from an RO water supply. yet in another you say,
I don't own an RO system
It's no wonder Milo's confused. So am I. You then went on to inform us that,
I fill jugs at a commercial water dispensing machineAnd you think that's a RO system? I've hooked them up to city water in grocery stores and they are simply charcoal filtered. But you came up with a novel way to insure good ice cubes and we thank you for sharing, Thanks, Tom

Hi riggitup,
You really should learn how to post on this site. To answer this thread you piggybacked on a 7 year old dead t5hreade named, Low water pressure to ice maker You then spent three posts telling me how well you know your stuff. ( In merged them). If you want to show us your smarts why not become a expert and answering some questions. I'll be looking for you. Tom
