If an account has expired some years ago and you want to trace what info you sent to that address,it might be difficult to pursue it further.Last week on a news channel, here in the UK,there was a news item concerning a father in the US whose son had died, and he wanted to 'see' what messages were left stored on his sons account. The ISP said that that as he was not the account holder he had no right to the messages, and that they belonged to the ISP for "security reasons".I believe the case is going to court.

I might be wrong, but once an old account has expired, you create a new one,but what's on the old one is 'lost' forever.Help on this would be appreciated please.

Best wishes,
Nez.

ISPs do not keep e-mail records for very long on active accounts, let alone expired ones.

I doubt very seriously if any info can be obtained at this time.

As an aside to Nez, the case you cite was a parent who's son died recently in Iraq. He wanted to get into his son's Yahoo to preserve a record of the correspondence. Yahoo is standing firm on privacy grounds. The case is going to court.
