I have a Whirlpool Dehumidifier which was bought this time last year.. We set it up in the Basement on the Automatic settings... Worked like a charm taking approximately 24 hrs before I'd have to empty the reservoir... Have had it running now for about 3 days this season... The Fan is running fine not making any unusual noises but were not drawing any condensation out of the air... One other thing the Digital Display number would drop down just below 50... It's been stuck at 61... Any idea? Thanks

It sounds to me like the compressor is not running. A dehumidifier is essentially an air conditioner and water condenses on the cold evaporator coil.

Generally, when the compressor kicks on, you can see a brief flicker in the lights or you can hear a change in the sound of the dehumidifier. This is because the compressor draws much more current than the fan alone.

So I would set the humidity control to the lowest setting possible and turn on the unit. After a few seconds I would expect the compressor to kick on. If it doesn't, that would explain what you are seeing.

As to fixing it, there are a few things that it could be. If it is the starting capacitor, you can replace this and it is relatively cheap. However, if it is something in the refrigeration system, you are totally out of luck unless the unit is still under warranty--and it might be, as some manufacturers will guarantee the compressor and other components for longer than the rest of the dehumidifier. So check this out.

Best of luck,
