GFCI devices are designed to protect people from accidental electrocution.
The GFCI monitors the difference between the amperage on the hot conductor and the amperage on the Neutral conductor.
If the amperage id the same, everything is fine if there is a 0.06 difference between the two conductors, the GFCI will trip and open the circuit.
