Hi,

I wasn't feeling right yesterday so I stopped by my doctors office for a nurse visit, she checked my bp and it was 160/100. I am on a 25mg dose of Atenolol and normally my bp runs between 123/65 - 135/65. My doctor increased the Atenolol to 50mg a day. I decided to take 25mg twice a day, 12 hours a part.

I went home and later that night my bp went up to 154/110 with a headache, I called the physician on call and she told me to take another pill and a Motrin for the headache. I did, went to bed and got up to my normal bp. As the day progressed my bp continued to rise, even after taking the morning 25mg dose, and I noticed my urine turned cloudy. I called my doctors office but didn't get a return call.

A few moments ago my head starting hurting again and my bp was 134/115. I know the bottom number is the pressure while your heart is resting and am concerned why it is so high at times. A few minutes later the headache subsided and I checked my bp using my other arm and it was 134/65. This concerns me, and I am wondering if I should be, what could be causing it and should I seek emergency medical help?

I was recently started on Provera daily to prevent endometrial cancer, Topamax and Baclofen.

Any advice would be appreciated.

50 Mg per day at a once a day dose. You should not be splitting the doses. What is your restingheart rate? Beta blockers tend to reduce heart rate before reducing BP.

I decided to take 25mg twice a day, 12 hours apart.
Were you told to take two at the same time or two 12 hours apart?

Thank you, that is the way my physician prescribed it, the on call physician said 12 hours apart. Resting heart rate is between 48 & 54.

48 - 54 is rather low unless you are very athletic. You need to have your medication changed. Beta blockers are notorious for lowering heart rate without lowering blood pressure.

Thank you. My resting was always around 70 until I had a surgical procedure for back in October and everything went haywire, resting heart rate has mostly been in the 50's since.

ShenPixel, if we are to help you properly, we need to know all health information such as prior surgeries and what kind, age, etc.

Have you attempted lifestyle changes as well as medications?

In the end, we cannot diagnose via the internet, nor can we prescribe. All we can do is advise. I advise you to contact your care provider after keeping a diary of your blood pressures over the weekend.

Do you know how to take your blood pressure properly?

Thank you, I was looking to avoid contacting the on call doctor again, she made me feel silly for calling with a 154/115 bp last night, even though mine has never been that high, and I have no idea what could make the diastolic go up like it is.

My health is not the best but not the worst. I am overweight, and I am working on it, I have lost 79 pounds since July 2012, and am 37 years old. I had ovarian cancer when I was 14, and began having pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding last August. I had a d&c and iud placed in October to test the endometiral lining and treat/prevent endometrial cancer. During the procedure I stopped breathing, and my heart rate has been low ever since.

After the procedure I remained in pain and bleed until mid January after I had the iud removed in December. My pelvic pain continues and needing treatment to prevent endometrial cancer I was put on Provera daily two weeks ago. I started Baclofen and Topamax this past Tuesday. I'm currently taking 5mg of Baclofen and 25mg of Topamax.

I have a monitor with the arm cuff and it shows the correct placement on it.
