In hemostasis, respiratory or metabolic acidosis is usually defined if the blood pH falls below the 7.35 level. This is still alkaline by definition-basic 101 chemistry. 7.0 is neutral pH. Below 7.0 is acidic. Above 7.0 is alkaline. A blood pH or hydrogen ion concentration of 7.35 is still alkaline! Yes it is less alkaline than the narrow reference range of 7.35 to 7.45 but it is still alkaline. I believe this is a misnomer. Maybe it should be called hypoalkalosis but not acidosis. Please explain the wrong technical reference when using this term. Thanks, Dennis
