Served at home I own in Florida that I rent out. I have been residing in Massachusetts for the last two years plus. Didn't receive summons from my tenant until one week before court date. Drafted motion for continuance to respond and to reschedule pretrial hearing. Nothing was posted by the court by the court date and today the request was denied by the court and was dated two days before the hearing date. It was not on the docket and still isn't, nor was I told when I called one day before the hearing. Default judgment was entered. (1) does the court have jurisdiction over a resident of another state, (2) if so can I file a motion to vacate the default judgment ?

What is the case about? Yes, the FL court can award a judgment against an out of state resident. And yes, you can file a motion to vacate. But if your motion for continuance was not granted its unlikely the motion to vacate will be.
