Hi I'm 24 yrs old and I have a 7 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. I am currently 5"1 and weigh 11stones this weight has progressed since being pregnant and also after birth, before I had my daughter I was 9 stones. After having my daughter ( natural births) I was kept in hospital for a few days as I was bleeding heavily and my blood pressure was very high. I took some tablets prescribed to me and eventually my blood pressure went to normal.

Since then I have experienced a number of problems, firstly my period only comes once every two months and last for about 2 days. Secondly I developed tendinitis on my wrist which I suffered from for a few months now this problem has gone away. Thirdly when I wake up I feel as though my whole body is swollen up especially my face hands and feet. Last of all I have gained a lot of weight no matter what I have done nothing has changed my weight I am emotionally and physically exhausted with trying I am starting to become obsessed and depressed. I have been to see the doctor but I don't have much faith in them they are terrible.

My main concern is my weight gain I feel extremely unhealthy and uncomfortable all the time I just don't know what to do I can't sleep at night stressing about it and all this has contributed to my marriage breakdown.

Please help me..

No one here can diagnose you. You need to see a Physician, another Physician, perhaps a mental health worker. You sound stressed, and you need help with that.

Your marriag is breaking down?

You should really see your doctor about this and express your concerns.

It could just be normal hormonal changes that come with pregnancy or even just stress. But, though rare it could also be something else. For example, there are several autoimmune disorders that have a tendency to present for the first time after pregnancy that could be attributed to your symptoms. (My first guess would be something with the thyroid).

But the only way to know for sure if something is actually wrong is to get everything checked out with your doctor!

Ok so I've been to see the doctor they checked my bloods - all clear! But I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad because my doctor says she can't do anything to help at all! I was in tears in there she just couldn't do anything for me medically. I don't know what to do

You've got an all clear from your doctor. This means you're healthy. There have been a few studies around that have suggested that being healthy is more important then being overweight. That a person who's overweight and a person who is 'normal weight' have the same life expectancy and the same overall health.

As well your metabolism has probably gone on weird highs and lows in the last few years. The next time you go to your doctor, you should get them to refer you to a nutritionist. They should be able to set you up on a proper diet and recommend a suitable personal trainer to get you to a weight you're happy with.

As much as you distrust the medical system, they're the best you got and you should try to get the help you need through them. Since you're measuring yourself in stone (From 126lbs-154lbs) I assume you're British/Scottish/Irish, and they've got an awesome medical system. Just get yourself in and don't stop until you've got someone that will help you in a way you're happy with.

What did the Doctor say about your depression, stress?

Yes I'm from uk! The doctor did suggest anti depressant however I think the reason why I'm depressed is because of my weight! I don't have the funds for a nutritionist or a personal trainer I'm helpless

They still couldn't explain why my period last only two days every two months when it used to be regular.. Could that be contributing to my weight gain or the reason why I'm finding if so hard to lose weight?

Antidepressants cause weight gain. What are you taking?

I'm just going out on a limb here, but do you happen to have a reddish face or any abnormal purple looking stretch marks? Also, where has most of the weight been added (face, belly, legs, all over?) Something you said made me think of something that they may not have tested for.

Depression can cause weight gain, which can make you more depressed which can mess up your monthly cycle, making you stressed out (which messes with your cycle more), which makes you even more depressed, and then you gain weight, and... (you get the picture). It's a vicious cycle.

What types of things have you done to try and loose the weight? We might not be able to help with a 'diagnosis' or anything like that, but perhaps we can help you find a way to loose the weight. If that's what you think is making you depressed, then perhaps it's time to find a solution to the problem at hand.

When was your daughter born? And when did you first notice the weight gain?

She was born 1 year and a half ago and the weight gain started towards the end of my pregnancy.

Hmm... it might not be for a few reasons, but I was thinking possibly Cushings or hypothyroidism. Both would cause edema (swelling), weight gain, depression, as well as a variety of other issues. Your doctor would have probably tested your thyroid hormone levels (or they should have), but most doctors don't do tests for Cushings, which is in most cases curable.
I'm not usually an advocate for people diagnosing themselves on the internet (it makes you paranoid) but if you want to check out some of the symptoms of it and see if you fit the criteria it may help if you decide that you want to pursue a diagnosis further: Cushing syndrome - MayoClinic.com (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cushings-syndrome/DS00470)
Please try not get 'hyped up' about it as this is just an idea. I want to try and help the best that I can, but it may not be this at all, merely a change in hormones or stress as the weight gain seems to have been gradual.

Have you tried any other types of exercise. There are some great work out video's on YouTube that are totally free and they make you feel the 'burn.' Sometimes the exercises and diets that work for some people don't work for others. You might just need to find the right balance for you.

The only time I have been exposed to cortisol medically is when I was treated for my tendinitis shortly after my daughter was born. My doctor injected it in my wrist where the pain was.

You don't have to be on cortisol therapy to get cushings, cortisol is produced naturally by the body, sometimes the adrenals get a little over zealous and produce too much of it which causes the disease.

It was just a thought.
