Why do you think the dog needs more weight?
Many pets are overweight and as a result suffer from many of the same problems overweight people suffer.

If the dog is underweight it's best to discuss this with your vet, as there may be a reason for it.

Ask your vet if the dog is underweight. If it is, rule out medical causes. If there are no medical causes, ask the vet to prescribe how much and what type of food to give the dog.
You should always keep a dog on the slim side - not undernourished but not at all overweight. Letting a dog get overweight is cruel because it's hard on their internal organs and their joints and can cause them to suffer, get sick and die too early.
