Ever since last summer I've been having sharp pain/discomfort in my pelvic area, mostly to the right side apposed to the left side. I had an ultra sound back in August but I never got my results until today. When I went to the doctors today she said I have follicles in both my ovaries. Is this good or bad? She said if it does develop into a cyst I will need to take a medication.

Your ovaries have folicles which are meant to rupture and release the egg. If they don't rupture and release the egg, a cyst can form and fill with fluid. Sometimes it's no big deal - you don't even have awareness it happened and it resolves on it's own. At other times, the cysts can become quite painful and can get quite large.

Sometimes medication is prescribed to manage cysts, sometimes surgery is necessary and sometimes they just keep an eye on it.

It sounds like you have a folicle that did not release it's egg and your doctor is just going to monitor you for a while before determining whether anything needs to be done about it.
