Hello All,

I am a single mother with a 3 year old daughter. Her father was in her life (When convienent for him) until she was 2. After we broke up, he made no effort to be in her life so I have been doing it on my own. It has been 9 months since he has seen her, I have told him that I have no problem with him coming over to visit her (he is 15 miles away). But he is insisting that he take her and have alone time with her. He has NEVER given her any money/financial support since she has been born. He has no job, no car, a DUI and an alchoholic/drug addict father living in his home. This is the reason that I will NOT allow my daughter to be without me in his home. Lately he has been sending me countless emails threatening to come to my work ( I have changed my phone number so email is the only contact). He has also come to my mothers home and dropped off notes. A few months ago, I sat down and attempted to work with him and we made a schedule for visitation with me there. On TWO occasions, he had my excited 3 year old daughter waiting for him for hours and he never showed. I cannot keep putting my daughter through this. I have not filed for support/custody. I am planning on it, but am a bit afraid because I know what type of environment he lives in and I do not want to expose my daughter to it. He is becoming very addament about coming to my work, and I don't really know what to expect from him. Help.

Go to court to get support and visitation worked out legally.

Is he on the birth certificate or been declared the legal father? If so, you are playing with fire by denying him his rights. You need to go to court before he does and establish custody, support and visitation.
