Aren't fantasy leagues a game of strategy using sports and sporting events as a sort of dice roll or spin of the needle?

This is like calling Monopoly a sport.

I suppose if you define sports as anything that entails competition, we could include poker, chess, canasta, and the like.

What is your opinion?

I thought they were more football and hockey related?

Fantasy sports is a lot of fun, particularly if you're a sports nut and lets you play your own game using your favorite players. It can also be quite addictive as you go about adding this player and dropping that one, monitoring the sports websites for news about player injuries or trades. It does have a good deal of strategy to it, as you need to keep up with the hottest players at the moment, or ones that are struggling as you weigh your team's needs.

The definition of "Sport" comes from 15th Century English shortened from disporten. Definitions vary, from amusing one self to frolic to mock or ridicule. Where the confusion comes into play is where present day "Sports" usually refer to ATHLETIC Sport.

Fantasy leagues are games of sport. Not athletics. Much of the same argument can be said of racing. Is racing using a horse, dog or car athletic or entertainment sport?
