My 2002 Celica is not accelerating properly. If I put my foot down in lower gears it is noisy but there is lack of power.

Might be dirty gas. Let that tank run all the way out then put new gas in. The problem usually goes away. Wouldn't hurt to put a gas additive in there either.

. Check for codes.

. Replace spark plugs (NGK), if they haven't been changed in 50,000 miles.

. Focus on the MAF Sensor, if the problem persists.

Where do you hear this noise coming from? Is the noise a new symptom?

Yes it is a new sympton it appears that when I press the accelerator the exhaust noise is loud but I lack power. No noise from the exhaust when in higher gears.

Check the exhaust system for a leak.

Your clutch has worn to the point where there's no grip anymore. Needs replaced.
