How many 12 year olds don't argue with a parent? She wants you to start acting mature and responsible and helpful, and you don't understand all the work that goes into that yet. Plus - it sounds like there's no father in the household, and that's double the work for her.
I can't tell you to start acting like a man, because I was 12 once and no one could have told me to act like a grown woman when I was 12. I had no clue. I fought all the time with my mother.
Think about the big picture for a second. Your mother (supposedly) loved your father enough to have a tiny little baby, not realizing herself that 18 years of that baby was a long, long time, and it meant giving up a lot of freedom, fun, money, time - you name it, she gave it up for you. In theory, you appreciate what she did and what she is doing. You help around the house, no food in the couch and wet towels on the floor and music or TV blaring, and you do dishes and vacuum and take out the trash and fix things that break. You thank her for meals, shopping, laundry, cleaning, clothes, and for all the money it takes to provide all that. Never mind your computer and iPod and whatever other toys you get.

Keep your mouth SHUT! Whenever you feel the urge to say something you know will cause an argument, Don't. Think before you talk. You other answer had some good things to do to help around the house. Do you ever sweep or vacuum for her? Do you help with dishes? Do you take out garbage? At your age, I was doing all these things to help my Mom and Dad at your age. Good luck.
