I am h1b visa resident and I was in us whole year in 2012. My wife and my daughter resides in korea but they had h4 since 2011.
Can I file my tax return jointly with my wife even she did not reside in us for 2012?
The gap of tax is too big so I can not handle this situation. Some cpa told me that I can not file but in turbo tax, I can file without ssn of my wife and my daughter. So I planned to get itin when I present my file to IRS office in my area.

Please help me!!

You CAN file jointly with your wife. Her physical location is irrelevant, but you CANNOT claim the child, as she MUST be present in the U.S. to be claimed.

You must go to an IRS Tax Assistance Center that has been designated as one that verifies passports. You can get the list from Internal Revenue Service (http://www.irs.gov), but your wife must be WITH YOU when you go.

If she is in South Korea, your best bet is for her to gi to the U.S. EM

She should go to the U.S. embassy and have the cwrtify a clear, color photocopy of her passport as a "true copy".

You then email her the Forn W-7 and tax return for her to sign, and she mails all three docunents to

She mails all three documents to you, and you sign the return abd submit the true copy, tge signed W-7, and the signed tax return (with your W-2 stapled to it) to the ITIN Processing Center in Austin, TX.
