Hello,

I have few questions on tax like what forms I should fill in out. I think there might be a couple of people like me who are in the same situation.

I came to USA on December 14th 2009 on F-1 visa status and I completed my Master’s from USC (Jan 2010 – December 2011). Then from January 2012, I started working in a Company where I was on the OPT from Jan 2012 – September 2012 and same company filed an H-1B for me and from October 2012, I was on H1B status.

Now tax season has started and I am supposed to file Tax returns. I am not sure what forms I am supposed to fill out.

Can anyone provide some suggestions or thoughts?

I am Single.

You need to file Forms 1040NR-EZ and 8843 ONE LAST TIME.

You CAn file dual-status, BTU there is no advantage tax-wise, so why wait until 1 June 2013 to file?

Thanks Atlanta for the help. I thought I need to file all my Tax returns before April 15th. Is it possible that I can wait also until June 2013? Just FYI, I in California.

You would submit Form 4868 for an extension, but, again, it makes no sense tax-wise to wait.

File the Form 1040NR-EZ and 8843, plus the California return.

Thanks Atlanta for the suggestion. Appreciated your help. You mentioned that I should fill out 1040NR-EZ and 8843 form and you also mentioned California return? What is this California return form? Is there any other form that I am supposed to fill out?

California is the state where you lived and worked, and it has its OWN tax return requirement.

You will find the state tax data on the bottom for your W-2.

So apart from 1040NR-EZ and 8843 forms. I need to fill out any other forms for state as well? Thanks for the help.
