Yesterday I had my municipal water connected by a local plumber, it was faster with fewer headaches than doing it myself. He cut and capped the 1" PVC line out of the bladder tank and it's tight, now the well supplies nothing but 1 water hose. I just replaced the gauge last week and this morning the pump was running?? Went out and watched it for a while and over the course of the day it went from 52 psi to the low 30's and just before it cut on I drained the bladder tank, checked the pressure and it was 30 psi, (2 lbs. below the cut-in). I don't really need the well anymore but I am wondering what is going on with it? Is it the foot valve? When I shut the 1st valve after the pump it short cycles. Any ideas would be appreciated and it is a deep jet pump.

It does sound like a leaking footvalve. You might try putting a checkvalve on the suction line between the pump and the wellhead.

When I shut the 1st valve after the pump it short cycles Not sure what you mean with that. You mean a shut-off valve between the tank and the pump? If so, then I imagine that would make the pump short-cycle.

Yep, sure sounds like a foot valve problem, or worse yet, a leak between the well and the home. Good news is, you now have municipal water, so you don't have to worry about well upkeep if you don't want to. Enjoy your new municipal water.

I agree with the other experts, but I'd be looking at whether I had a foot or a check valve to replace. Good luck, Tom
