Am I using the correct tin snip. All I want to do is cut a straight line.
But these snip cutter is at a angle, and I cannot cut straight . See picture.
Perhaps I am using the wrong tool. Is there more than one type of tin snips

Actually there are more than one.. there are those meant to be cutting left sweeping curves, those for right sweeping curves... and those for cutting straight lines.

Persoanlly I can't tell which you have from the picture... perhaps those that do more sheet metal work than I do can.

If you look at the model # on that snip I believe it will have an S L or R. Straight, left or right. If you are cutting thin aluminum you can use a utility knife and a straightedge.

Yes, green and red handles are left and right-hand cutters. Yellow handles are straight cut, though you may need to relieve stress during the cut by relief cuts from the waste side, if applicable and available.

If you will be doing a lot of straight cutting, get something like a WISS A-9. They are about $25 but will last forever. I still use a pair that date back to the 30's.

Got them in garage sale 5 cents. They are beat up, but they cut

It takes some learning to use. And I don't do very well at it. Keep practicing.

I just cut slowly and carefully... easier to screw up when Like me... you don't do it very often.

I recently bought a cheap store brand electric snip. Just over $40 from Menards. Cuts fast, through tough stuff like heavy gauge duct work. I'll be less likely to cut myself with those razor sharp metal edges. Be careful. My hands are thanking me. Might help you too.
